Sault Sainte Marie is one of the oldest cities in the US, and the oldest in Michigan- the location has been continuously occupied since 1668. It is also the location of the Soo Locks, the busiest seasonal water way- ferrying freighters between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. The Soo, as called by the locals, is also home to Lake Superior State Univeristy. The area is full of all season outdoor recreation: hiking/biking trails in town, snowshoeing, X-country skiing, snowmobiling, and any outdoor sport you can think of! The Soo is also home to several excellent resturants and microbreweries (and wineries!).
