General Practitioner Veterinarian Internship: Mission Veterinary Partners at our network clinic Mayfair Animal Hospital located at 11619 W. North Avenue Wauwatosa, WI 53226
Focus of Internship: This Veterinarian Internship in Emergency Veterinary Medicine is applicable for qualified 2019 DVM graduates and current practicing DVMs seeking an excellent general practitioner mentorship opportunity! This is a 1 year-long internship that would include general practice, urgent care, and emergency training. The objective of this internship is to build a well-rounded general practitioner who is able to manage any case that could walk into their clinic. The schedule would be a mixture of days and nights, with a minimum of 3-months of overnights, where they will be paired with a senior staff member.
Learning Opportunities: Experience the unique and challenging opportunity of working at an Emergency 24/7 clinic while training to become an excellent general practitioner. This Internship is designed to provide hands-on experience for those who are interested in small animal general.
Diagnose, perform surgery and treat patients.
Maintain excellent client communication.
Be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from but not limited to: laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental and nursing skills.
Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms and accurate information.
Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.
Call clients for follow up and to discuss results.
Set standards of care/protocols for medical and surgical areas
Ability to lead and establish a vision for the practice team
Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment.
Perform medical duties
Maintain practice growth and review financial reports
Communicate clearly and accurately through written and verbal interactions
Work in collaboration with practice manager for administrative management
Deal with clients in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism
Additional Requirements and Skills:
To perform this job successfully it will be necessary to become proficient in the use of the practice management software (AVImark).
Special Working Conditions
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds, and over 50 pounds with a co-worker.
Endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods
Ability to be confident around pets.
Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
Client needs and work volume may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while in a hospital environment.
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Associate is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
Minimal travel required, possibly for vendor visits and associate education.
