Heidi’s Village is a new state of the art shelter in Phoenix, Arizona. It is a unique shelter model that was created to help serve other shelters as well as 501c3 rescues in the area. The main mission is to provide boarding and veterinary care for the shelters and rescues. Other programs will include behavior training, grooming and a kitten nursery. Currently we have a large support staff that consists of 3 CVTs, 7 vet assistants, 12 kennel staff and several receptionists. The equipment is all brand new and includes whole body digital radiology, dental radiology, two iM3 dental units, two dental tables, three surgical tables and an agreement to have ultrasounds completed by an outside service. The veterinary software will be a mixture of ezyVet, Shelter LUV and Gingr (boarding). The reason for the multiple systems is to adhere to all state regulations since Heidi’s Village will not own most of the animals except for the kittens in the nursery. The facility is approx. 5 acres and consists of 9 buildings with a “splash pad” in the center of it all. There are 6 dog kennel buildings that consists of four “pods/wards” with a large workspace in the middle. Each “pod/ward” will have 10-12 runs depending on the size and each run will have its own drain (no shared drains between runs). Each “pod/ward” will have its own HVAC system, so there will be no shared air between the different “pods/wards”. Finally, each dog building will have four play yards to allow for plenty of play-time and enrichment. There will be two cat buildings with two “pods/wards” per building. Each cat building will have plenty of natural light along with flat panel TVs with fish/bird videos. Finally, each cat building will have a large outdoor enclosure space so that every cat has a chance to get outside in a more natural setting.
