Emergency/Urgent Care Veterinarian for our Exotics and Companion Animals
Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital
Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital, located in a suburb of Chicago, IL, is looking for an Associate Veterinarian (DVM) interested or with experience in Emergency/Urgent Care to join our team!
We are a 5 doctor, full-service veterinary general practice and emergency facility that is open 24 hours per day and treats a wide array of pets. Exotics are our exclusive specialty by day, but our after-hours emergency practice (7pm-8am) is additionally open for dogs and cats. While we have long been rooted in Elmwood Park, we are undergoing a complete remodel of our facilities to further enable our top of the line medicine, and is soon to be completed by September 2020!
In this role, you would be the Veterinarian responsible for our urgent care hours, which are from 7pm until 8am, three days a week (3 on/4 off, and flexible hours are available!).
Exotic experience is not necessary, but is a plus. Mentorship is available.
New graduates are welcome to apply and will be supported and mentored by our Veterinarians on days, before transitioning to nights.
What do we offer? Lots of things, including:
A well-equipped hospital with digital radiology, ultrasonic dental equipment, loads of in-house testing (see below), and computerized medical records.
The support of a large experienced and caring staff. And, we like to have fun too!
Competitive salary and benefits (including health and dental insurance)
Paid licensing fees, association dues, and continuing education (CE)
Paid time off and a 401(k) plan
Exotic animal mentorship available, if needed
Support and mentorship available for new graduates
Access to unique patient cases and learning experiences
As an added reward, pick one bonus from each category!
$10,000 for closing costs on a new house/real estate in the area to help you get settled!
$15,000 student loan assistance
$15,000 retention bonus to reward your ongoing efforts
Up to $5,000 in relocation expenditures reimbursed with receipts
$1,000 extra CE dollars and double the CE days for your first year
$1,500 donated to a charity of choice
1 year membership in a local club of choice valued up to $2,000 (examples include gym membership, sailing club, museum and more!) – a work/life balance is encouraged and we want to support your hobbies outside of work!
What makes someone a good fit?
If you’re an enthusiastic, team-player who enjoys emergency veterinary work and doesn’t mind winter-weather in a fantastic city, you’d be a great fit for our hospital. A DVM degree is required, but again exotic experience is not and mentorship can be provided.

On our team, you will have access to all these great resources:
