We are accepting applications for veterinary students interested in completing a two week (or more) rotation at Hawthorne Animal Hospital, Glen Carbon location. We are flexible with dates and students are able to create a custom schedule based on their interests.
Hawthorne Animal Hospital is a small animal (exotics included), AAHA accredited private practice that receives appointments every day of the week and is also 24/7 for emergencies and ICU. Hawthorne’s goals for DVMs are to: prescribe, diagnose, and perform surgery. The support staff are fantastic and complete everything else. -surgery (general, arthroscopic, orthopedic, laparoscopic) (instruments: ligaSure, CO2 laser)
-dentistry (dental radiographs included)
-radiology and ultrasound
-ICU and ER
-exotics and occasional wildlife
-2 satellite practice locations
-for students: business or practice management interests
Additionally, as a third or fourth year student there is opportunity for performing canine and feline spays and neuters on shelter pets.
We enjoy hosting and teaching students year round. If interested in an externship, please email us with any questions or for more information. If applying for an externship, please send the following information: year in veterinary school, dates interested in visiting (okay to not include if not available yet), interests in veterinary medicine (ex: surgery, GP, ER, etc.), and if housing is needed. We are able to provide housing for our externs.
