WVRC, part of the Ethos network of specialty & referral practices, services the greater Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin region with locations in Waukesha, Grafton and Racine, Wisconsin. Our Waukesha hospital is both a VECCS Certified Level 1 hospital and a recognized American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care provisional trauma center. Services at WVRC include 24/7 ER, critical care, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dentistry, oncology, anesthesiology, cardiology, & dermatology. WVRC has a clinical trials coordinator and participates in clinical trials with Ethos Discovery and other programs. A branch of ZN Laboratories will be moving on-site, in 2021. Our clinic is equipped with a complete in-house lab for point of care & after hours results, digital radiology, cage side ultrasound, telemetry, mechanical ventilation, high flow oxygen delivery, MRI & CT.
Our rotating internship will include core rotations in surgery, internal medicine, critical care, neurology, anesthesiology, & ER. Elective rotations can include any service in our hospital. While on ER rotations, interns benefit from the same training our ER focused interns have been receiving since 2007, including primary case responsibility, 24-hour mentorship, & training as the primary surgeon on ER surgery cases.
All interns participate in didactic sessions including weekly presentations from ER DVMs; separate monthly M&M rounds, journal club, and radiology rounds. Our interns spend the majority (at least 90%) of their time at our Waukesha hospital. Additional shifts are at the Racine location, where we just opened a new state of the art hospital this year. This internship provides a 2 week overlap with the previous intern class on the ER floor for extended, real time orientation. The program will prepare interns for residency programs or other specialty internships, a career in emergency medicine or strong general practice. Many of our current ER DVMs have been hired on from a previous internship at WVRC.
Southeastern Wisconsin offers the best of Midwest living including theater and concert performances, fine dining, and upscale shopping, as well as an active sports scene that includes the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks, and Admirals. The cities of Madison, Green Bay, & Chicago are easily accessible. Unlike many cities, our beaches, sports, fishing, sailing, and biking/hiking trails are all part of the urban mix. Here you can enjoy a summer season of festivals and outdoor dining, complemented by a winter of spectacular performing arts and snow sports.
We are looking for interns who have a passion for high quality, clinically based learning with a large, varied caseload and possess strong communication skills. We encourage all levels of applicants, including recent graduates, current interns, and general practitioners, who would like the additional training our internship provides, to apply. Our program provides high caliber, and broad training. We offer a wide range of benefits that includes health, dental and supplemental life insurances, eligibility to participate in our 401k plan, and employee pet benefit. Base life, AD&D, long term disability and professional liability insurances are employer paid. In addition, we reimburse for AVMA dues, one additional veterinary organization dues in your field of interest, and the WI licensing fee. Online CPR RECOVER courses are provided to each intern in addition to a $500 CE allowance.
