If you are looking for a position in a busy, ever-changing environment and enjoy working with a collaborative team, we are looking for you! Delaney Veterinary Services (DVS) has an immediate opening for a 2022 Reproduction Internship (6 month or a year period). DVS is a primary and referral equine facility serving the greater Edmonton area in central Alberta. We currently provide referral services (surgery/internal medicine/reproduction) to Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. We have a strong team of eight veterinarians including experienced general practitioners, a board-certified specialist in surgery, and a board-certified specialist in reproduction. We have full time support staff as well as many part-time staff, students, externs and volunteers.
Our practice provides comprehensive services including surgery (elective and emergency), lameness, medicine, advanced reproductive techniques, general health, dentistry, chiropractic, acupuncture, rehabilitation and advanced imaging.
We are a large practice that offers the opportunity to practice high quality medicine with the luxury of the cooperation and consultation of highly specialized and regarded veterinarians in their fields. We have a very large and diverse client base to establish a niche in, while maintaining a happy work/life balance in a wonderful community. DVS associates and interns partake in monthly Journal Club meetings. As well, our interns attend the UCVM Internship Grand Rounds to connect with interns within the province.
The internship will provide the candidate a comprehensive hands-on experience in areas of mare and stallion reproductive management. We enjoy a high case load of mares admitted for breeding management and artificial insemination using fresh, chilled and frozen semen. In addition, there is a sizable number of mares admitted for embryo transfer, embryo cryopreservation and shipping. DVS maintains its own herd of embryo recipient mares that are leased out for the ET program. A modern dedicated reproductive laboratory is available for semen and embryo cryopreservation, and for processing in-house samples for uterine culture and bacteriology. Additionally, there are opportunities to train in areas of neonatal medicine and intensive care.
DVS is nestled in the rural county of Strathcona (population 100,000), 30 minutes from the heart of Edmonton, Alberta (population 1,000,000), and close enough for daily trips to the mountains! Exceptional recreational opportunities exist for any outdoor enthusiast. The recent grand opening of The Century Mile Racetrack and Casino and upcoming summer festivals are sure to bring endless nights of excitement to the city.
We offer a competitive package with an annual salary of $35,000 (potential for salary increase based on progression through internship program) with living accommodations provided . We offer our employees a comprehensive benefit package including: extended health care, dental care, vision care, paid time off, CE compensation, clothing allowance and paid emergency fees.
