The Ohio State University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time clinical-track faculty position in Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in clinical service and teaching. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty certification or eligibility for certification by the ACVS or ECVS and/or ACVSMR is required.
The successful candidate will join a distinguished equine program that includes 4 ACVS, 3 ACVECC and 4 ACVIM diplomates. Equine surgery, emergency critical care, internal medicine, and ambulatory services (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/clinical-services-horse-owners) are components of our integrated equine program. The Veterinary Medical Center has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including high-speed treadmill, nuclear scintigraphy, EquinosisÒ Lameness Locator, 128-slice CT, 3T MRI, linear accelerator and electrochemotherapy unit. In direct support of this position, the College is scheduled to begin construction of an indoor Equine Performance Evaluation Arena in 2022 adjacent to the Galbreath Equine Center, a 11,000 sq. ft space to facilitate under-saddle evaluations, advanced diagnostics and offer outpatient services.
Clinical responsibilities will focus on delivering high-quality care for advanced lameness, referral diagnostic imaging and sports medicine cases. Opportunities to integrate with the equine surgery service are present and is dependent on the successful candidate, and the equine program is dedicated to facilitating growth of the successful candidate’s specific interests. Coordinating and facilitating advanced imaging cases is supported by a Diagnostic Imaging service with 6 ACVR diplomates (includes 2 ACVR-EDI). Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 75% time in clinics, that includes clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Teaching responsibilities will include didactic, laboratory, and clinical teaching of professional students, interns, and residents. The equine program is currently supported by 3 ACVS and 3 ACVIM residents, and 2 rotating equine interns. Opportunities to develop an ACVSMR residency and/or specialty internship in Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine are present. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, yet clinical research, publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. A strong and varied caseload catering to a mix of equine disciplines is coupled with a collaborative environment within the Galbreath Equine Center. Every faculty member is expected to participate in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. There is a mentoring program for new faculty members to support their academic development as teachers and investigators. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to integrate into the College’s signature programs, In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to integrate into the College’s emerging signature program, Consortium for Advancement of NeuroMusculoskeletal Locomotion (CANSL - https://vet.osu.edu/signature-programs/neurmusculoskeletal-1), led by small and farm animal and equine orthopedic surgeons for collaborative research within the College of Veterinary Medicine, Center for Clinical and Translational Science (https://ccts.osu.edu/), College of Medicine’s Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Research Institute (https://medicine.osu.edu/departments/sports-medicine/research), and Biomedical Engineering (https://bme.osu.edu/faculty-research/bme-department-research-areasdomains).
