ABOUT US AND THE POSITION

Upstate Veterinary Specialties, PLLC is a growing, 24/7 privately-owned specialty and emergency practice located in upstate New York.  As a privately owned hospital, the practice owners are active clinicians who take a team approach to manage the hospital.  They make themselves accessible to the staff and are dedicated to making UVS the ideal veterinary practice for employees.

Our leadership, administration teams, doctors, and medical staff all work together in a collaborative environment to achieve our mission - helping pets live longer, happier lives through expert medical care and compassionate client service. We are a large team of dedicated professionals and take pride in being a leader in comprehensive specialty and emergency care for pets.  We have an on-site and diverse leadership team and a full-service administrative department.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will provide leadership and the strategic vision of the hospital in collaboration with owners and fellow officers.  Specific responsibilities include:  Leading and managing our board-certified specialists, emergency clinicians, chiefs of service and medical staff director to achieve the hospital’s business objectives and strategic plan; overseeing the hospital’s medical training programs; developing and implementing new medical initiatives, technologies and medical policies; conducting medical reviews for all adverse events; and serving as the doctor liaison on the Patient Safety and Training committees.

OUR FACILITY

Our facility is a custom-built, 40,000 square-foot hospital, with another 4,500 square-foot addition planned for 2025.  We have access to state-of-the-art medical equipment necessary for the highest quality patient care, such as:  digital x-ray, 64-slice CT, 1.5 Tesla MRI, multi-parameter telemetry, 4 high-quality ultrasound units, fluoroscopy and endoscopy suites, multiple surgical suites, in-house diagnostic laboratory, in-house pharmacy, underwater treadmill, and blood bank.

 Our facility continues to expand to meet the growing need of our community, with active recruiting efforts for additional specialty services (Dentistry/oral surgery, ophthalmology, and radiology) as well as ancillary support services (on-site crematory and regional reference laboratory with clinical pathology).

Our hospital is located between Albany and Saratoga Springs, a lively and energetic region of upstate New York that balances our historical roots with a vibrant metropolitan atmosphere. The growing area is centrally located between the Adirondack, Catskill, and Berkshire mountains and the cities of Boston, New York, and Montreal. Our location offers easy access to public transportation with Amtrak stations and the nearby Albany international airport.

Candidates for the CMO position must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) or an equivalent international degree from an accredited teaching hospital and have a current DVM and DEA license.   Veterinarians with advanced training (internship or residency) or specialty certification are preferred.  Minimum of ten years’ experience as a practicing veterinarian in a 24/7 Specialty and Emergency referral hospital and a demonstrated understanding of veterinary laws and regulations is required.  Demonstrated leadership abilities with no less than five years of management and leadership is necessary.

This position offers a salary commensurate with experience plus a profit-sharing bonus based on individual officer contribution and the hospital’s profitability.  Additionally, UVS offers a competitive benefits package and buy-in opportunity for the right individual.
