Is it time to shake things up in your veterinary career? Ready to be part of a shelter team with heart, humor, and enthusiasm? Look no further! HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society) is thrilled to add a part-time or full-time Wellness/Surgical Veterinarian to our growing crew.
At HAWS our team works together to create a space where community pets and their people stay together. If things don't go as planned we are here to support those pets that come to the shelter seeking a new start. You will get our support though mentorship, training, and the chance to make a real impact in the community.
The team which you could be a part of:
Medical Director, one full time and one part time Veterinarian, and volunteer Veterinarians.
A squad of excellent technicians.
Clinic Director and two front office gurus.
You'll work alongside 2/3 Veterinarians daily as well as multiple technicians holding it all together.
Daily tasks and variety:
Wellness & Dental Services (Approximately 45% of your time): Work alongside our Medical Director and other Veterinarians to grow our public wellness and dental offerings. Think top-notch, reduced-cost care for pets in the community.
High-Quality Spay & Neuter (Another 45%): You’ll be performing high-quality, high-volume spays and neuters to help shelter, rescue, and community animals. Bring your surgical skills, and we’ll provide the purrs of appreciation.
Medical Care for Shelter Animals (About 10%): Offer care to shelter animals, fosters, rescue animals, and the HAWS community.
The Ideal Candidate:
Skilled in wellness care and possibly looking to learn more.
Ready to dive into surgeries that could include everything from dentistry to orthopedics (based on skill or desire).
Passionate about keeping pets and people together.
Positive, compassionate, and excited to work with our team of staff and volunteers.
Requirements:
Valid state veterinary license and DVM degree.
Comfortable with shelter medical databases (we’ll get you up to speed!).
Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.

The right candidate will have strong surgical skills and interest in performing in a high volume spay/neuter surgical setting, with the option of having surgical variety by performing procedures based on ability such as orthopedics, dentistry, soft tissue and ophthalmic cases.
The ideal candidate seeks to make a difference in the community, has a positive and compassionate attitude, and is self-motivated to work alongside management, staff, and volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Valid State License by Veterinary Exam Board / Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited university.
Ability to work under pressure and under noisy conditions around animas
Ability to lift and work on feet for long periods of time
Knowledge and comfort in shelter/medical database
Strong verbal and written communication skills
