If so, we invite you to experience the summer adventure of a lifetime. Alaska Icefield Expeditions is seeking Veterinary Technicians to join our 26th season of glacier dog sledding! Immerse yourself in the beauty and traditions of Southeast Alaska.
You will work with Dr. Millman and be on site in Juneau and Skagway Alaska where PAC Services provide all of the medical care for sled dogs working in the summer. This job requires traveling to different glacier based camps for frequent vet visits. Travel includes helicopter flights to and from camp, where plenty of sightseeing and a continual variety of work is expected throughout the season.
We are focused on a high level of medical care for our sled dogs at our glacial dogsled camps. You’ll have what it takes for this position if you excel at diagnosing illnesses, recognizing dog behavior, communication, and organizational skills. The perfect fit for this position showcases a demeanor that combines compassion, attentiveness, and resiliency.
Vet Techs are expected to be hands on with each of the sled dogs in their care. This includes dog inspections, ensuring all injuries and illnesses are identified and immediately brought to the Camp Manager, Lead Musher and Company Vet. Vet techs will also ensure the BCS of each dog is at company standard for tours. This position will provide educational material and participate in camp meetings to relay Standard of Care protocols, dogs first training, musher reporting, vet box contents, proactive training for females in heat and general care as needed.
This position includes provided housing and a meal allowance. It also includes an end of season bonus for those who complete the entirety of the season beginning in the third week of April through the end of September.
